The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.

Born in London, England to Sikh immigrants from the Punjab,  I now call Brooklyn, New York my home.

My life journey has taken me in a variety of directions, all of which seem to converge in that magical way when we are doing our soul’s work.  With feet metaphorically located in different parts of the world, much of my work focuses on the liminal: on belonging/not belonging and the ‘neither here nor there.’

Background

My fascination with systems and a desire to understand the order of things led to a degree in Law at Queen Mary, University of London. I went on to conduct research, mostly qualitative, with international human rights organizations in post-9/11 USA before co-founding, alongside celebrated attorney and author Andrea J Ritchie, a New York City-based research collaborative committed to engaging the participatory action research model with grassroots organizations. Our work focused on policy and practices related to immigration, restaurant workers, sex workers, violence against women and LGBT people of color and law enforcement misconduct. I became an adept and engaged storyteller through this work and began to incorporate video into my research, eventually going on to establish an oral history project that explores migration and displacement within the Punjabi diaspora in London, UK.

Recent work

Most recently, I have poured my love of story into a video art installation about the Partition of India, told through my father’s personal narrative. In May of 2014, my essay entitled, A Lesson in Love was published in the groundbreaking anthology, Her Name Is Kaur: Sikh American Women Write about Love, Courage, and Faith edited by Meeta Kaur. Also in the Fall of 2014, I participated in the Decrocher La Lune show at The Invisible Dog in Brooklyn where I debuted the first of a series of short films the deal with memory and ritual. In September 2016 I debuted a diptych single channel video entitled "Liminal" at the Caos Art Gallery in Venice, Italy.

Realizing that the questions I was encountering in my work around identity and home have deep roots, I began my journey into Metaphysics. At around the same time, a dear soul friend passed on and in seeking understanding and meaning I found myself shunted fully and undeniably into the non-linear intuitive realm.

Today, and in keeping with the multifaceted nature of the exalted feminine,  I continue to apply my abundant creative energies in a multitude of arenas, including as an entrepreneur, a community-based researcher, a storyteller, an oral historian, a filmmaker, intuitive reader and energy worker, counseling astrologer, educator, writer, poet and lover.
